How did that happen, God? How could you use me? I'm an upcountry hick from a map-dot town...and you used me? I'm the one who cursed you, and now I'm proclaiming you! Don't you think Peter asked these kinds of questions? Don't you think the sight of the Day of Pentecost stole his sleep that night? How could anyone sleep after a day like that?

"The giver of these languages," he'd told the crowd, "is the giver of life itself." And if you want life, eternal life, here is what you do. "Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  Those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them." (Acts 2:38, 41 NKJV). I'm supposing that is when the people started lining up. I'm supposing that's when the apostles started rounding up water and tubs. I'm supposing that's when Peter began to realize, "Something uncommon is going on here!"
