05 When the Forgiven Don't Forgive - Every Day Deserves a Chance (MP3)

Listen to a Sample

Homer and Langley Collier hoarded stuff. Everything. Newspapers, letters, clothing: you name it; they kept it. In 1947, after nearly 4 decades of collecting, someone reported the suspicion of a dead body at their address. It took seven policemen to break down the door. Ten days of digging produced 103 tons of junk and Langley. He was found beneath an avalanche of junk while crawling through a tunnel, as if the stuff he'd kept collapsed on and killed him. Imagine living in a house of hoarded trash. Tunneling through piles of junk. Sleeping between piles of garbage.  Who wants to live with yesterday's rubble? You don't, do you? Or do you? Do you stockpile hurts? Amass offenses? A pile of rejections in one corner. Can't see out the window for the stacks of hateful things people have said. Images of every unkind person line the wall, litter the floor. You've had your share. Innocence-takers, promise-breakers, wound-makers. They trashed your heart. Yet, doesn't it make sense to get rid of this stuff? Jesus says, "Yes."

Act I: God forgives the unforgivable.
     Matthew 18:25-27
Act II: We do the unthinkable.
The principles of the story:
Don't underestimate God's gift to you.
    The grace-given give grace.
    Unforgiveness tortures us.
